As the season changes…
As we move into Autumn, I’ve started thinking about making my home a little more cosy and cocooning.
Firstly, let’s talk about lighting.
Now its getting dark around 6 pm in the UK, I don’t want to come home to a dark house. A really nice, and relatively inexpensive, way to create more light is by using LED lamps. I absolutely love the LED lights that you can buy from Abigail Ahern or Pooky at the moment. Abigail Ahern has battery operated ones for around £20 -£30 which are very trendy and come in a range of colours and styles. They can be popped on a coffee table or on your shelves or bookcase, or in a hallway.

Pooky lights are gorgeous and rechargeable. They are more expensive than Abigails but I feel they give a more traditional vibe if that’s what you prefer. Add these to your windowsill or book shelves or bedside table. They are beautiful.

You don’t need to have matching lamps anymore. Things don’t have to be in pairs. I think it looks much more authentic and natural to incorporate lamps with different shades or bases. Mix wood with brass. Have glass shades and frilly lampshades. There are loads to choose from for all colour palettes. Think layers, from floor lamps to LEDS. No-one wants the big light on, unless maybe it’s a chandelier!

Secondly, lets think about layering textures for Autumn.
Let me start this by saying, you can never have too many cushions or throw blankets! There is nothing better than surrounding yourself with comfort when you eventually sit down at the end of the day. Or if like me, you get more of a break at lunchtime, watching The Only Way is Essex with a cup of coffee and a big throw over you and the dog!
My favourite place for throws, quilts, blankets and the like is Graham and Green. They have a really stylish selection and the quality is fabulous. One of my favourites is the sherpa throw. I’ve just bought one in Blush, to warm up my brown leather sofa for Autumn.

Bringing in different textures of cushions or cushion covers is always a good idea. Swap out cooler fabrics like cotton and linen for plush velvet and warm wool. I love this from Cotswold Company and the colour is gorgeous too.

Finally lets talk colour.
Most of us will have a colour palette for our spaces or at least a theme. A colour palette sets the tone and mood of your space. A good rule of thumb is the 60-30-10 rule.
60% of your space should feature your main colour, usually on the walls. 30% should be the secondary colour to add depth, think rugs, curtains or furniture. 10% is your accent colour, the little pops that bring things to life.
Use your cushions, throws and lamps to bring in the interest. Create colour pops where you have a neutral space. You can also bring in natural elements such as plants, reclaimed wood or glass. Just something simple like branches in a vase can elevate your autumn coffee table.
I hope these little ideas have been helpful. If you need help with anything interiors, I am offering a bespoke moodboard and shopping list service for £50 just for the month of October. If you’re interested you can book through the inquire page.
Happy weekend x
