What we’ve been reading, watching and buying at Vicki Shaw Interiors
This week we’ve been reading The Bible of British Taste by Ruth Guilding. It’s a fabulous book, looking at the interiors in some uniquely British homes. I particularly liked Bettiscombe Manor. Owned by Jasper Conran it has, as you would imagine, some incredibly stylish additions such as the ticking stripe fabric on the sofa, but is also has some amazing features such as the patinated shelving in the pantry. Ruth has captured these houses authentically. They are not styled for show but illustrate the messy, real life of their occupants. It is a great read.

We’ve been watching Salvage Hunters on Discovery channel. This sees Drew Pritchard travel around the UK and Europe finding rare collectable antiques or just interesting items that he either keeps or sells on in his shop. It’s a great watch if you like antiques or rare things. It’s also fascinating to listen to the stories behind the items that he finds.
I love visiting antique fairs as you never know what you might find. There are always a wide variety of sellers. It’s also a nice day out and an excuse for a pasty and a hot chocolate while I’m browsing! I recently went to an antique fair at the Nofolk Showground. It was huge and had so many different antiques and collectables and also decorative objects. I bought a vintage mohair bear and a Staffordshire pottery or wally dog as I collect them. I will be sharing my visit on my Instagram page this week.
